Mariel began her journey of yoga, not at a studio or on a mat but through her work with the community in finding and creating space for those who may not see themselves in the practice. Since her early twenties, Mariel has used her activism, her identity as a women of color and community leadership as a guide in her self practice and continued transformation. When the Lava Studio opened in Lawrence, Mariel was searching for a space to release stress and trauma, to unpack her work as an organizer, and to find community with her fellow yogis. She found that and more. Learning to love the heat, humidity, and her self, Mariel completed her Yoga Alliance registered teacher training through Lava. She is honored to continue her journey in this space and hopes to help hold space for anyBODY and anyONE who is drawn or who needs yoga in their life.
